Zygomatic Implants, sometimes referred to as Zygoma implants, are created for those who require dental implants but are unable to have the treatment done because of extensive bone erosion in the upper jaw. With these implants, bone grafting is not necessary (bone augmentation). Dental implants are inserted directly into the jaws to replace teeth; zygomatic implants are placed directly into the zygomatic bone (cheekbone), where they serve as support for upper jaws, bridges, and dentures. This is the main distinction between the two types of implants.

Bone Atrophy
Bone atrophy, sometimes referred to as resorption, is the decrease of bone density brought on by cell ageing. Patients who have jaw atrophy or who have worn dentures for an extended length of time may not have the necessary quality or bone density for standard Dental Implants.
Volume Decrease in the Maxillary (Upper Jaw) Bone
The resorption of bone tissue may cause this disorder to develop. Since there is little tension applied to the bone mass to maintain the necessary bone density, this condition typically results from tooth loss. Pneumatization of the maxillary sinus, a condition in which the sinus's air volume rises while the bone volume falls, may also be to blame for this.
Bone grafting treatments provide an alternative, but their main drawback is the prolonged healing and recovery period. Additionally, dentures must be worn while the bone transplant is curing. Additionally, grafting can occasionally fail, leading to increased discomfort and swelling.
